On Saturday morning, the Michigan Roots Jamboree will be offering free Ugly Mug coffee to parents with children at the kids tent while The Kerfuffles entertain. The Kerfuffles are an Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti-based group of musicians who believe kids’ music should be fun for kids AND parents! Their performances feature music-based storytelling and songs ranging from traditional favorites to funny and engaging originals. Children will enjoy singing along, dancing and experiencing the music! Remember that kids 12 and under are FREE, so bring the kids along and spend some time at the Children’s tent on Saturday, sponsored by Community Records, L3C.
Due to Ypsilanti City Ordinances, music in Riverside Park ends at Midnight on August 5 and 6. But before you head back to your tent on Frog Island, check out the Late Night Jamboree! Sponsored by Woodruff’s Bar, Corner Brewery, and Crossroads Bar & Grill, these late night after-parties will keep you dancing to the wee hours of the morning to bands like The Macpodz, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus, Zoogma, Covert, Gun Lake, Misty Lyn, DJ Jamie Register, and more! With your Jamboree wristband, cover is only $5 at the door, and just $10 for anyone without a wristband.
The Michigan Roots Jamboree would like to welcome The Ben Miller Band to the Friday night lineup on August 5 in Riverside Park in Ypsilanti. The band was originally slated to be touring in California during the festival, but has since made other plans, making them available for our Friday night show!
The band calls their three-piece sound “Mudstomp,” which incidentally is also the name of their record label. With a distinct blend of bluegrass, blues, folk, and gospel sounds, the band is known for getting their audiences dancing and singing along. With Ben Miller on guitar, vocals, and harmonica; Doug Dicharry on drums, mandolin, trombone, trumpet, and washboard; and Scott Lepper on the washtub bass, it’s a small but distinguished group of musicians that has taken the Midwest, and Michigan in particular, by storm. This Joplin, Missouri-based trio is a music festival favorite and has been seen at Summer Camp, Wakarusa, and SXSW. We are proud to welcome them to their second performance on the Michigan Roots Jamboree stage. To learn more about this unique group, check out some of their videos on the Ben Miller Band Artist Spotlight!
We are live music. When choosing a lineup, live performance is the first and foremost concern for us. We are fortunate to have such an amazing base of great artists in the area that thrive performing live. No matter what your personal music tastes are, you’ll hear a little bit of everything at this year’s festival.
In addition to the music, we will have venue performers and live art by some of Michigan’s best artists. You can also look forward to local craft beer, delicious food, great vendors, a children’s tent, and activities for the whole family. Remember, children under 12 get in free! Please help us spread the word! You can find our facebook page here: www.facebook.com/michiganrootsjamboree. Read more...
Thank you so much to everyone who submitted a design for the 2010 Michigan Roots Jamboree Logo Contest. We received dozens of excellent entries, and it was a tough decision for us. Our winner is the guitar pick-inspired logo designed by Ann Arbor local and Ypsi music enthusiast Jen Harley. We loved how she subtly worked our beloved Mitten into the guitar.
We caught up with Jen this week and she told us a little bit about herself. This impressive bio-engineer and U of M research technician has had little training as a professional artist, but loves to contribute to the local music scene by designing concert posters and CD covers for friends’ bands. Check out our interview with Jen below! Read more...
